OUR STORY

Since 1984.

It began with a single bench in Zeytinburnu. Forty years on we are in the same district, doing the same work, with the third generation.

Protocol gift boxes produced at the Uveys Leather Design workshop

A business that started with one bench

Uveys Leather Design was founded in 1984 in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul. In those years the work was mostly binding covers and document folders; leather was not yet common as a corporate gift material.

Over time the weight of the work shifted to protocol and presentation cases. The boxes we produced for embassies, public institutions and corporate clients set the direction the workshop still follows.

Why we do not do mass production

Mass production lowers cost but flattens everything to one type. In our work it is not possible to give a dimension without knowing what goes inside the box; on every project we take the product’s measurements and cut the die to them.

That adds a few days to the process. In return, the person opening the box sees the product sitting exactly in its recess — which is where the whole effect of a gift is built.

Three generations, one bench

Some of the craftsmen working here today learned the trade from their fathers. Die cutting, corner turning and leather skiving are still done by hand; machinery is involved only in cutting and pressing.

  • Die cutting and measuring — by hand
  • Leather cutting — machine assisted
  • Corner turning and lining stitch — by hand
  • Deboss and foil press — machine
  • Final inspection — by hand, two separate craftsmen
